One thing that I do not hear discussed is the reasons why you even need a website. In my consulting work, I will frequently ask if the client is sure that they need a website.

The Dean Machine

Ok, set politics aside for a moment.
Howard Dean’s campaign has helped to solidify the Internet (And arguably blogging) as an effective way to build a grassroots movement. Senator Kerry has thus far raised something like $177 million for his war chest. 35% of those donations came from the Internet. Thats over $61 million!
Money aside, I believe that the church will need to adapt these strategies in order to survive in the future.
Wired Magazine (go figure right?) recently profiled 4 different politicians and how they are using the Internet. Please read this article and then post comments here.

Remember what David Atkins said about raising money. The church is so good at raising money because they are always asking every chance they get and they are not ashamed to ask.
nate September 10th, 2004 at 9:42 amHere are the two things I took from this article.
1- Of 11,000 unique visitors to the Carson Web site in June, some 9,000 went to the blog
2 - The key to attracting them, Biddle says, is being “audacious.”
questions:
*can we use blogging to bring in some support for Noah from those who may surf the site?
*what is the first step to creating an online fundraising campaign?
Joshua Rosen September 10th, 2004 at 10:21 amI was listening to Kim Komando(?) last Sunday and she was talking about Bloggers who are, if they receive high volumes of traffic, using their site for advertisers. So that’s one way we could raise money. Perhaps we could asked for advertising dollars from a book seller on certain topics, etc.
Also, there’s no shame in directly asking. Use a banner ad for that purpose. “We need money to keep doing this work. If you like what you see and read, please donate to our cause…” Obviously that’s too long, but you get the idea.
