Computers are everywhere

With the recent theft of data at LexisNexis I began thinking about how to be completely safe online.

The problem that the LexisNexus issue raises is that the data that was stolen was just data. It was not an ecommerce sites database or some other online center. This was a data broker. A company that stores and sells data.

Who uses that data? Banks, businesses and institutions. So, even if you NEVER use a website to buy stuff online, even if you never fill out a form online, even if you do not own a computer, you can still have your information stolen.

The reason is that EVERYTHING uses computers to deal with data.

For fun, and because people in our classes have asked us, I am going to investigate what it takes to NOT have any personal data stored in data banks.

This ought to be interesting.

Who knows where this will end up, but we will start a series on how to disappear.
