One thing that I do not hear discussed is the reasons why you even need a website. In my consulting work, I will frequently ask if the client is sure that they need a website.

GoogleOS? YahooOS? MozillaOS? WebOS? (kottke.org)
Our own Stephen Hallgren has been talking about this for some time. The idea of a WebOS. The article above continues the conversation in depth.
What I enjoy most is the idea that the local machine could become a terminal and entry level costs for users would drop even more. With distributed apps and a little bit of local storage, churches could give away computers with out breaking the bank in urban areas, where small store front churches have a tough time making ends meet anyway.
In some ways, I am already a participant in the WebOS. With tools like Basecamp and Backpack, a decentralized system of tools is building. And the results so far have changed my life.
For instance, with basecamp, my clients in my consulting work can interact with me from anywhere and all of the tools we need to keep a project moving are in one place.
I say bring it! Bring the WebOS.
