One thing that I do not hear discussed is the reasons why you even need a website. In my consulting work, I will frequently ask if the client is sure that they need a website.

International Website For Congregation of 60

I was recently at a very small church to hear a dear friend speak. The church started 2 years ago and the attendance is up to roughly 60 people. We live in a pretty tough place to start a church, and the mission field they have chosen is exceptionally tough here in Eugene.
My wife and I are sitting in this congregation and I can only ask myself one question.
“Does a church this small need a website?â€
The pastor is a great one, and has a terrific ministry to a lot of hurting people. She is in the midst of lives and change and healing is happening all around her. In the midst of that, what possible good can a website do for her?
Then she called up a couple to dedicate the 6 month old little boy that they have. When she started to talking about this family, an unusual story unfolded. The husband is from Brazil, the wife is from Eugene. They met in Costa Rica on a mission trip.
That is when it stuck me. Even with out the web, we are a global community. Not, we are becoming, or we will be, but we are. We are a community of hurting people from all over the world that can share in the power of the cross.
So, why do they need a website? Because the know people in Brazil and Costa Rica. They can use a simple blog and a Flickr account to tell the story of how God is healing them. They need a website because He has made them a part of the global community.
I am on vacation this week. I’ll post again next week.
