One thing that I do not hear discussed is the reasons why you even need a website. In my consulting work, I will frequently ask if the client is sure that they need a website.

IMSafer. IM Monitoring for your kids.

I have been asked many times in the trainings that we do, “How do you protect your kids in IM conversations.”
Until now, there have not been very good approaches. And the protection for Instant Messages has been nil.
Introducing IMSafer.
Meet the creators in an interview with Robert Scoble. If this is a topic you are concerned with, YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS INTERVIEW. They discuss chat, IM, MySpace and more.
IMSafer is a tool that helps you understand what is happening in your children’s IM conversation. It is a phenomenal approach to helping with parenting and who kids are talking to.
You can see the parent blog here.
To see the details of what it does see here. Here is a quote from the site:
“IMSafer monitors the instant messenger conversations of your children to help you balance protecting your children and respecting their privacy. The IMSafer service will only notify you when your child is engaged in a potentially dangerous conversation on IM.
At IMSafer, we have worked with law enforcement officials to learn how potential predators initiate, develop and maintain inappropriate online relationships with children. We are always working to fine tune and update our analysis engine.
Getting your child protected online is as easy as signing up.
Once you have installed the IMSafer software on any computer you wish to monitor, if your child receives an IM with content that is flagged by IMSafer, you will receive an email notification within 90 seconds that includes the screen name of the person speaking with your child, the community rating of that person, and the category of the flagged content.
You can follow the link in the email or log on to the web site to see more detail about the conversation, the flagged content, and why it was it was considered dangerous. The IMSafer service understands not just English, but common misspellings, slang and even leet speak, where numbers and punctuation are interchanged with letters.”
Well done IMSafer. This is a problem that has long needed a solution. Looks like you have a great answer.

This is a great list! I know I will be referring to it often. Thanks! -waugh
