One thing that I do not hear discussed is the reasons why you even need a website. In my consulting work, I will frequently ask if the client is sure that they need a website.

Go Jott.

Lately I have been working to learn Rails and Django. It has consumed a great deal of time, but well worth it. Hopefully in a month or two I’ll have a detailed comparison for everyone.
In the meantime, go Jott.
With Jott, you call a number, leave a message and it is converted to email and a text message and then sent to whom ever you are jotting.
That’s right. Call a number, say who you want to Jott. Leave a message and the system does the rest.
How cool is that?
Leave yourself reminders, jott your friends, make todo lists. This is one very cool app.
Additionally, you can create a group in your contacts. You can Jott a group. How would this be cool? Use your imagination. You can notify an entire church about something with one phone call. Imagine “Everyone please pray for Jim who is in surgery right now†and everyone on your group gets the message. Or “Everyone meet at Sy’s Pizza at 10:15PM†to the youth group. The possibilities are endless.
This will be a very fun application to watch.

I just thought of something… you could Jott your blog if you have a email blog feature. here’s the Wordpress one: http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_by_Email
David Merwin May 1st, 2007 at 3:41 pmI will be very interested in your comparison of Django and Rails. I’m currently doing Rails development, but I have wanted to check out Django. Ruby code is a little more elegant then Python in my opinion, but I have heard great things about Django.
Rick Russell May 1st, 2007 at 9:42 pmSo far the biggest difference that I have discovered is the difference in documentation. This will seem trite, but the Django documentation is “pretty” and well organized but incomplete. The Rails documentation online is hard to orient and find what does what, but it is much more comprehensive.
Both frame works need serious help with their documentation.
Django’s automatic admin is a very powerful argument towards using Django. Though in the past few days I have found some odd behaviors or restrictions in reference to the DB abstraction.
I’ll keep you guys posted.
David Merwin May 2nd, 2007 at 9:09 amI’m lovin it! Jott has helped me from being so darn forgetful! I use jott to remember my music when I’m not around my guitar. I hope this company goes far. From my understanding, they were going to expand towards businesses when they start charging. that should be interesting!
